The writers’ district runs a monthly competition for young writers. There is no entry fee and the winner receives a cash prize of $50 and publication on their website. The competition is open to people of all ages, including children and teenagers. The Writing District requires that the work be original and written in English. The District Writers’ Academy has been a great resource for budding writers for more than 20 years. The academy’s founder holds a Ph.D. and an M.F.A. in creative writing and has helped hundreds of aspiring writers. In addition to the writers’ quarter-finalists, the authors of the finalist works for the prize will be featured on a website called Disability Issue. It will feature poetry, art, and nonfiction from writers with disabilities. The festival is sponsored by Syracuse University. It also includes a panel at AWP where writers with disabilities can showcase their work. They will be published in a variety of venues, including literary journals and online publications.
